 Jamerco of City of Industry Calif., introduces its new Air Palm-Hammer. The palm-sized pneumatic tool has an operating pressure-range of 50-120 PSI and a consumption of 2-4 CFM. It drives a variety of nails and spikes. Operation is triggerless and is performed by pressing the loaded nailer down over the target. The kit includes a standard common nail attachment, a magnetic tip attachment which holds nails in place, a finish nail attachment, a hammer attachment and a complete maintenance kit. A leather glove is also included. In the production of pig iron, brick and refractory materials are used to form the very large ovens or retorts (coke ovens) in which coal is converted to coke. Refractory and brick materials are needed to line huge shaft-like blast furnaces in which the molten pig is formed. The auxiliary furnaces or hot blast stoves, which heat the air for the blast furnace, are also lined with refractories. The molten pig iron from the squarecopperfirepit blast furnace is then sent to a brick- or refractory-lined ladle. The molten pig iron is then poured into a brick- or refractory-fined pig casting machine, where the pig iron is formed into large castings and cooled. 2. Automatic slack adjusters (ASA). A self adjusting slack adjuster is a ratchet wrench built into a manual slack adjuster. The ratchet drive rotates slightly during either a brake application or during brake release depending upon the design. squarecopperfirepit When brakes are in proper adjustment, the ratchet decouples. As the lining wears, or as the drum expands, the ratchet drive continue to adjust to combat the additional stroke length.There are two design approaches to brake sensing. One method senses clearance or load sensing and adjusts at the early part of the brake application. The second method senses stroke and adjusts at the end of the brake release stroke. ASAs are mandatory on all new air-brake equipped tractors and trailers in the US.3. Antilock Braking Systems. ABS systems are designed to prevent tractor jackknifing or trailer sluing. Electromagnetic sensors, mounted on wheel ends or inside the axles, sense wheel rotational speed. An electronic control unit (ECU) monitors the information from all the sensors and compares the wheel speeds. As the vehicle decelerates, the ECU senses when any wheel is decelerating too rapidly, indicating that the wheel is approaching lockup. When this happens, the ECU sends a signal to solenoid valves that reduce air pressure in the brake chamber. When the wheel deceleration rate changes, air pressure is restored. The sequence occurs in microseconds. End result is smooth stopping of semi-combination vehicles in a straight line. ABS is now mandated on all new tractors and trailers built in the US. "Pressure at the fuel injectors has increased from 15,000 psi a few years ago to nearly 30,000 psi on new engines," says squarecopperfirepit Pete Brown of Caterpillar''s engine applications group. "To get these higher pressures, fuel pumps are built to closer tolerances. Dirt in the fuel is like sandpaper, and it will definitely cause greater wear."To meet the challenge, Cat''s newest engines are equipped with increased water-sensing and fuel-filtering capabilities as well as a filter on the fuel tank breather. Primary fuel filters, once designed to remove 150-micron particles, are now rated for 10 microns. Secondary filters, once sized to remove 10-micron particles, are now rated for 2 microns. And the new high-efficiency filters can remove up squarecopperfirepit to 99% of particles above those rated sizes compared to the 50% efficiency of older nominal filters. Filter improvements are also available for storage tanks. "Tank filters are typically rated at 10 microns nominal, so they take out 50% of particles greater than 10 microns in size.
